Cavapoos inherit wonderful traits from their Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and Miniature Poodle parents — but they can also carry risks common to those breeds, such as heart conditions, joint issues, and certain genetic disorders. By conducting comprehensive evaluations on every breeding dog, we minimize those risks and give every puppy the strongest possible start in life.
Our program follows best practices for responsible breeding. All testing is performed in partnership with experienced veterinary professionals, including specialists as needed. Results are documented, reviewed, and shared transparently with approved families.
Every breeding dog undergoes the following evaluations to ensure the highest level of care.
Full-panel DNA testing screens for breed-relevant genetic conditions common in Cavalier and Poodle lines, including progressive retinal atrophy (PRA) and other hereditary disorders.
OFA or PennHIP hip evaluations and patellar luxation exams assess joint health and screen for dysplasia or instability that could affect mobility and quality of life.
Echocardiogram and/or OFA cardiac evaluation (critical for Cavalier-influenced lines) screens for mitral valve disease (MVD) and other congenital heart conditions.
CAER (Companion Animal Eye Registry) / OFA eye examination by a veterinary ophthalmologist screens for inherited eye diseases such as cataracts, PRA, and other conditions.
Comprehensive reproductive exams, fertility evaluations, and wellness checks performed in partnership with experienced veterinary professionals to support healthy litters.
Full wellness exams, vaccination protocols, parasite prevention, and Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) from days 3–16 to support optimal neurological and stress resilience development.
